Piero Maria Castiglioni

Piero Maria Castiglioni , also known as Piero was born in Lierna (Como) in 1944. He graduated with an Architecture degree in Milan where he lives and work completely committed to the lighting technique business. In 1968 and in 1973 obtained a "Cooperation" degree, respectively at the 14th and 15th edition of the Triennale of Milan.

In 1972 he and Ugo la Pietra designed the exhibit "Italy: the new domestic landscape" at the "Museum of Modern Art" of New York. From 1973 to 1979 he was the co-owner of an architectural firm located in Via Presolana, along with his father Livio. During this time they designed the lighting systems for many private and public art galleries, hotels, offices, showrooms, stores, houses, and temporary exhibits in Italy and abroad. Often the lighting appliances were designed for special events and then handmade in small production batches.

The "Scintilla" system designed for FontanaArte is the outcome of their experience in those years. Among the many lighting projects the following are his most noted:

Piero Castiglioni has also taken care of the lighting for many showrooms and shopping centers including Marina B, Laura Biagiotti, Trussardi, Prada, Galtrucco, Cittadini, Ferragamo, La Rinascente, Coin, Akris, Loro Piana, Zucchi, Les Copains, Cristian Dior, LVMH etc.

Throughout his career he won many awards. Since 1989 he has been the chief editor for the magazine "Flare – Architectural lighting magazine" and he has partnered with a number of companies including Stilnovo, Forma e Funzione, Frank Soriano, I Guzzini, Siemens, Stilnovo, Venini.

He has designed many products including the Scintilla, Palio, Sillaba and Tratto systems, the Acca, Diamante and Parola lamps for FontanaArte.
